Future Journalists Ignite Campus Journalism at The Honeycomb’s RPW Workshop at Manlilisid National High School

Javier, Leyte- The next generation of campus journalists sparked their passion for storytelling and truth at the second day of The Honeycomb’s Ready. Press. Write (RPW) Community Connect workshop. Held at Manlilisid National High School (MNHS) on September 13, 2025, the event brought together 30 young, aspiring journalists eager to sharpen their skills and make an impact in their school publications on.

After these enriching sessions, the students gathered for the Closing Program, which served as the final highlight of the workshop. The program began with a Gallery of Outputs, showcasing the best works created by the participants during the sessions. These outputs were recognized in a Certificate Awarding Ceremony, where students were applauded for their outstanding contributions and effort throughout the training.

The event also included the Journalists’ Creed, where participants recited their commitment to uphold the ethical standards of journalism. This was followed by a heartfelt Gratitude Message from the participants, expressing their appreciation for the valuable lessons shared during the workshop.

The day began with a continuation of practical workshops that built upon the foundation established on Day 1. Christian Mark Cano, Creative Director, and Ivan Rodriguez, Multimedia Editor, led a session on Photojournalism.

Fernando Manuel Cultura, Sports Editor, then took over to guide the students through the nuances of Sports Writing. Cultura shared his expertise on how to cover sports events, craft engaging match reports, and capture the excitement that is inherent in sports journalism. The students learned how to write with energy and passion, drawing readers into the action of every game.

The workshop ended with a Photo Opportunity, capturing the memorable moments of the event and the camaraderie built among the participants, facilitators, and staff.

With the completion of the Ready. Press. Write (RPW) Community Connect training workshop, the students walked away empowered and inspired, ready to take their newly acquired skills and apply them to their school publications. The event successfully demonstrated the importance of nurturing young minds to become not only skilled writers but also ethical storytellers and future vanguards of truth.

A significant moment of the program was the Ceremonial Signing of the Memorandum of Community Collaboration, which formalized the partnership between the school, the students, and the facilitators in advancing campus journalism. This symbolized a shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of responsible, ethical journalists.

Meanwhile, Abegail Reyes Anas, MNHS Teacher and former The Honeycomb staff member, delivered the Closing Message, reflecting on her own experiences in campus journalism. She encouraged the students to continue pursuing their passion for journalism with integrity and commitment, reminding them that journalism is not just about writing—it’s about sparking change and making a difference.
